Toyosi Oseni ‘Face to Face’ is a sombre offering of adoration and deep yearning for God

Toyosi Oseni Debut Ep 'Face to Face' is a sombre offering of adoration and deep yearning for God.

Toyosi Oseni debut single ‘beauty for ashes’ was in 2020, it would take three years for her to put out her debut EP ‘Face-to-Face’.

Toyosi as an artiste embodies depth and richness in tone, mostly expressed in worship-esque music, and this she marries with a peaceful demeanour and hip sense of fashion.

THE STARTER

Toyosi opens up on the project with honesty on the track “It’s your face” and it is the soulful and desperate cry of someone who seeks to see more of God, not just for what he can give, but for who he is.

OlaKunle Zakariya head pastor of her local Church Glory Centre Community Centre, with his vocals ushers in gender balance with the same theme.

The stillness of water that the psalmist describe in psalms 23 is what Toyosi sheds even more light on in the next track “Where I belong’’

In the presence of God; time loses its value, personal identity is flung out the window. Only one thing matters - that this presence be felt greatly and that his directions are administered precisely.

‘I love it when you come’ is the lead single of the EP

With his presence, comes Grace and joy. An experience worthy of eternal relieving, It’s like the eager anticipation that accompanies long distance relationships.

However you think of it, it is the same perspective that Toyosi seems to be sharing on this project. But that ideally should not come off as ‘repetitive’ for it should be the status quo of a believer - yearning more for God. It never should be a one-time wonder phenomenon. . It’s a daily concept. And that is what she means when she passionately sings in the eponymous fourth track of the project ‘Face-to-face’

This worship projects comes to an end with the track ‘Everything Freezes’

A lot of believers can attest to the seemingly non-mobile state experienced in their devotional life - where everything seems to come to a halt including fear, worries, doubts, shame and guilt. Attention seems to be fixated on just him.

FINAL LAP

Another underlying theme to this project is the power that God's presence can do in the life of a believer. According to Toyosi, God’s presence can make mockery of every mountain that rear their ugly and foreboding sizes as obstacles.

Face to Face is intentionally intimate and soulful, barren of energetic rhythmic influences. The goal is ascension via an atmosphere of worship.

The future is bright for Toyosi Oseni. And time would do its work as her atistry unfolds.
