Obareengy ‘Restore 1.0’ was an intimate and highly spirited portrayal of altered passions. (Event Review)

The sub- theme for Obareengy ‘Restore 1.0’; his attempt at gathering his core and subsequent fans for an experience was ‘Jesus, Revival and AfroGospel’

This headline show was much more than that, as time would later go one to proof. The event was  situated in Maryland, at the Pistis Hub on the 19th of December 2023, for 4pm.

While Obareengy headlined the show, he didn’t do it on his own; he enlisted DJ Horphuray for music policy,  Blackboymcm for crowd control, Peace Oni and Ore Macaulay as spoken word acts and Toyosi Oseni, Naga, Agent synpa, Kelathrillz Protek Illasheva, Rhemaz, Greatman Takit, Angeloh, Pillar_ymr, Gaise Baba  and a surprise guest performance from Limoblaze.

Toyosi Oseni opened up the show after about half an hour worth of brilliant tussle of music and hype provided by Dj Horphuray and Blackboymcm.

Setting up the atmosphere charged with worship renditions for Naga to come up and balance with an electrifying’a trial will convince you’ performance.

Even while it seemed like sound took a long time to get into terms with his performance, he handled the crisis brilliantly and engaged the crowd dexterously.

Agent Synpa: the highly reggae infused artist came up next, followed up consecutively by performances from Kelathrillz pillar_yrr and Protek Illasheva.

Obareengy would be up next for his first batch of performance. Dressed in perhaps the most intentional outfit an artist at his concert could be in, A white hand painted suit with strong storytelling linked to his artistry hinged solely on his faith in Jesus. This jacket was designed by muralist Urchez.

Identifying as a tour guide, taking tourists through a travel destination. This time, the travel destination was some favourite songs from his not so recent catalogue. Reactions from the teeming listeners were priceless.

Obareengy interludes mid performance were stirring. Linking certain songs to defining moments where the mercy of God located him and transformed him into everything he represents. And even boldly leading the  Bethel Music 2015 song “No Longer Slaves”

Greatman Takit, Rhemaz , Ore Macaulay, Peace Oni who surprisingly wasn’t on stage to deliver in  her “mummy GO”  persona, as she led an altar call as impressed on her by the Holy Spirit. They all were the next extension of artistes to perform.

Obareengy was back for his second and last performance, this time in more military fashion and more expressive movements, aided by a crowded stage of Greatman Takit, Defayo, Dj Horphuray, Angeloh, Manolo, O’tobi, Gaise Baba and Limoblaze who would later close go on to close the show.

What was brilliant about ‘Restore 1.0’? It was the elimination of barriers. There you had everyone literally on the ground floor. The most exuberant one’s were at the forefront, either singing their hearts out, dancing in a  contagiou  state of aloofness. The other slightly reserved percentage could be found behind or are the flanks equally soaking in all at the concert.

Even artistes had the bandwidth required to immerse themselves in human reactions other than all that happened in the green room.

Because of the relatively small space, experience in the main hall could have been beefed up. Having the brightly lit disco lights, as enthusiastic as they could be, had the limiting factor of time. Meaning that: you could only hold it in for as long as your interest rate could afford. The slightest distraction was valid enough to discard the lights.

But, back to the man of the moment. Watching Obareengy perform and taking an inventory of how his artistry tilts more to a largely unchurched audience makes you even appreciative of all that he represents.

It’s like that one sheep who was highly sought after by the great shepherd, after being rescued, assumes the position of a watch-dog, though it still remains a sheep.

Obareengy is the one who was lost, but found, serving notes of direction back to the flock who have or still would lose(lost) their path.

What a ministry!
