Anendlessocean live in concert was a fulfilling experience, because of the framework of intentionality behind it. (Event Review)
From the moment a song like ‘Alakori’ dropped, as far back as 2020, AEO had begun to posture as a farmer planting perennial crops, and the harvest would come in the shape of his first headlined concert.
The Federal palace Hotel venue was ambitious, the ticket policy was even more audacious. His ambition and audacity was solely hinged on the slow(burner) but steady growth of his artistry and resultant standpat fanbase of teeming women and recommendatory men.
Skepticism was mostly around how he could pull the show off in about 3 hours, with no other supporting artists, fresh off his four month old ‘Decagon’ debut album. But after the show, answers to all these were provided with alarming alacrity.
Stepping into the hall that breezy Sunday evening, there was a brightly lit decagon erected on the small stage, to your right and left were extensions of the VIP section, at the back, you could locate the VVIP’s while the front adjacent to the stage boasted of the ‘standard’ ticket fans.
A music policy that mostly catered to the core of a AEO fanbase - faith-based, clean and genre bending was provided by DJ Kraizee.
A little behind schedule, When the headliner came on stage in a two piece flattering to his frame and skin tone, he apologised for his late coming and without further ado, began the show with the help of his live band (a drummer, two keyboardist, a guitarist, a trumpeter and about four BGV’s).
But his arrival on stage was preceded by the announcement from Ore Macaulay who doubled as the official hype-woman and event host.
And in a little less than 60 minutes, AEO performed songs from his catalogue. This time with a thoughtful emphasis on revamping the live experience of these songs.
Furthermore, AEO attempt at engaging with the crowd was nothing short of exhilarative. It wasn’t far fetched to ask yourself in that room “how did I not know AEO was this funny?”
There was a second batch of performance, marked by a change of outfit, more intimate seating arrangement, appearance of a guitar saddled on his person, more personal stories of music as a saving grace, introduction of the energetic Greatman Takit; the outspoken IBquake; and the effervescent Ty Bello who led a spirited Holy Ghost impartation.
This second stint of performance was the one where he premiered his latest single ‘Gratitude’ which served as the closer of the show.
The AEO Live in concert was a fulfilling event because it provided one of the best experiences from the viewpoint of a faith-based event.
