Marizu acoustic session was a harvest of years of hardwork in the currency of hardcore fans.

On Sunday the 21st of May, all roads led to the Kulture Yard for Marizu’s first headlined live show since his debut in 2017. Put together by Marizu and the team, this acoustic live show was a free event.

One indicator of an artist with an impressive fanbase is punctuality to their events. And as at 6:04 pm, there were no seats available, a lot of people were enjoying the show, which started around 6pm, from the confines of their standing position.

Two things were constant - the loud chatter and the clattering of cutlery as food orders were being made and delivered.

Obareengy would be the first artiste to break the ice, with his energetic performance.

Ife, the Minister of Joy was up next with his admirable persona and hearty smile. He also teased unreleased music.

‘Uncle Jo’ Jo Deep graced the stage necut and something about his performance was the level of connectivity he mustered while performing with the audience.

One thing was beautiful to watch while he performed - the sheer retention exhibited as clusters of people sang word for word. It ended even more intimately, with a rendition of some recent worship songs that reminded everyone of the love their father has for them.

The man of the moment, almost overtly assuming Marizu performed next, and for about two minutes, the cheers were deafening. It was beautiful to see.

It was visible to see Marizu underestimated the feedback he got, just by how flustered and almost teary eyed he was.

He would go on to perform a set list of some of his songs that about 90% of everyone on ground could sing verbatim.

He also premiered an unreleased song with the reggae legend Buchi, who also doubles as his father.

And then Buchi went on to introduce himself to this young populace. Some of them, who could only attach a picture of him to a family around a beach area, with a younger version of him singing ‘it is well with my soul’

The crux of what Marizu does is the spreading of the Gospel. All that matters is that people can listen to him and be drawn to the father and hunger for a closer relationship with him. And so a ‘DIY’ altar call was made to that effect.

The show came to an end, but only for a few minutes as Gil Joe and Enkay would later come on stage to close the show.

Six years after his debut single, with different body of works released, Marizu finally had his first live show and it was visibly rewarding to harvest years of work in the currency of hard core fans.

It was a worthy experience. One that makes you conscious of the grace upon Marizu’s life and how his music would be a tool for the push of the Gospel, with his fan base engineering that moment.
